MANILA -- San Mig Super Coffee Mixers point guard Justin Melton will participate in the Slam Dunk contest of the 2014 PBA All-Star weekend happening on April 3-6 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Melton, who stands 5-foot-9, is the smallest among the dunk participants, which will also include the 6'5" Chris Ellis (reigning slam dunk champion/Ginebra)  6'9" Japeth Aguilar (Ginebra),  6'4" Arwind Santos (San Miguel Beer),  6'3" Rey Guevarra (Meralco),  6'3" Cliff Hodge (Meralco) and  6'1" Calvin Abueva (Alaska).

"I am excited to be a part of the slam dunk contest," Melton told Solar Sports Desk. "I do not have any dunks prepared yet but we will see come show time."

The Angeles City-born cager first caught the attention of PBA fans when he soared to grab an alley-oop pass from teammate Alex Mallari for an emphatic two-handed jam in the Mixers' game against the Petron Blaze Boosters during the Philippine Cup.

"This will be my first official dunk contest," he added. "The competition is tough. Every contestant can fly."

The high-flying guard out of Mt. Olive College is the 13th overall pick in the 2013 PBA Draft and was an integral part of San Mig Super Coffee's championship run last conference.

In the pre-draft biometrics, Melton recorded a third-best 11'4" vertical leap among the applicants.

NBA players Spud Webb and Nate Robinson are two of the shortest players who have won the All-Star side event.

In the 1986 NBA slam dunk contest, the then rookie Webb ―officially listed at 5’7"― beat his Atlanta Hawks teammate and 1985 dunk champion Dominique Wilkins. On the other hand, Robinson, 5'9", owns the distinction of being the NBA's first three-time slam dunk champion.
