PBA Trade: Chris Ross dealt to Petron, Denok Miranda goes to GlobalPort

SYDNEY -- The GlobalPort Batang Pier and the Petron Blaze Boosters finally consummated a trade that has long been rumored.

In a deal that was approved by PBA Commissioner Chito Salud during a breakfast Wednesday morning here in Australia, veteran guard Denok Miranda will be shipped to the GlobalPort Batang Pier in exchange for catquick guard Chris Ross.

A pass-first point guard, Ross averaged 5.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.7 steals playing for the Meralco Bolts last season.

Ross was sent by the Bolts to GlobalPort two weeks ago together with Chris Timberlake for Gilas-Pilipinas gunner Gary David and AJ Mandani.

“I have just approved the trade. It is balanced so good luck to both Petron and Globalport,” said Salud.

The PBA chieftain also did not deny that more teams have been eagerly negotiating for trades as the governors are sharing the board room daily in this resort city from land down under.

GlobalPort head of basketball operations Erick Arejola told Solar Sports Desk that the acquisition of Miranda might not yet be the last for the team.

“I can’t comment on that. All I can say is that Boss Mikee (Romero) wants to strengthen this team. If coming up with another trade will help us out in that objective, so be it,” said Arejola during breakfast, where the trade was consummated.

Miranda is said to be on his way to the Barako Bull Energy Cola camp, where the Batang Pier will get the rights to the sixth overall pick of the coming draft.

Miranda for his part vowed to give whatever team he’ll play for next a steady game.

“Basta kung saan ako, lalaruan ko ng todo todo. Yun naman ang hinihintay ko. Makapag-contribute sa team,” said Miranda, who was limited to back-up point guard to Petron star Alex Cabagnot.

Miranda, a member of the 2005-2006 All-Rookie team, averaged 6.0 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists in his last playing year with Petron with only 16.9 minutes per game.
