DIGOS, Davao del Sur – While trying to recuperate from his nagging back injury and while his team is still making a bid for another Commissioner’s Cup finals appearance, San Mig Coffee’s James Yap made sure that he would not miss this year’s PBA All-Star festivities.

The superstar guard flew in to this Southern Philippine province early Friday morning to take part in the annual event and mingle with the fans.

“Of course ganito talaga dapat. Eto yung time namin na magpa-thank you sa mga supporters namin sa PBA,” shared the many-time All-Star in an exclusive interview with Solar Sports Desk.

“Kanina (Friday morning) lang kami dumating nung therapist ko,” added Yap, who tagged along San Mig Coffee Mixers’ therapist Arcee Cua to help him manage the pain being caused by his bad back while he is in Digos.

He competed in the three-point shootout, which was won by Rain or Shine rookie Chris Tiu.

Yap was not able to get past the elimination round after only tallying a score of eight.

But he did not mind his poor shooting night at all. He just made it a point to heed as many photo requests and autographs from his fans.

“Kung wala sila, wala tayo dito,” reasoned Yap. “Masaya kami na happy naman yung mga tao dito sa Digos.”

Yap will also compete in the PBA All-Stars vs Gilas-Pilipinas exhibition game this coming Sunday.

Ginebra’s Mark Caguioa and Chris Ellis, Alaska’s Calvin Abueva and Petron’s Arwind Santos will join him in the starting lineup of the All-Star team that will be handled by Aces head coach Luigi Trillo.
