Salud open to review PBA Governors Cup schedule

Salud: “I don’t want to preempt the board, but the league is open to review (the schedule)."

MANILA - PBA Commissioner Chito Salud revealed he is ready anytime to review the possible shortening of the season-ending PBA Governors Cup.

The import-laced tournament that will run from tentatively May 12 to at most July 28 is the main concern of national coach Chot Reyes.

The proximity of the third conference is very close to the 2013 FIBA-Asia Championships, which the country will be hosting on August 1-11.

“Sana talaga mag-adjust yung PBA, I am hoping so we can better prepare for the FIBA-Asia. Kasi kung hindi ano pa ang oras naming maghanda?” said Reyes in an interview with Solar Sports Desk.

But Reyes need not worry at the moment as Salud revealed that he is just waiting for the board to give him a signal, and he will start assessing the possibility.

“I don’t want to preempt the board, but the league is open to review (the schedule). Kung pwedeng igsian ang schedule ng Governors Cup,” said the amiable PBA chieftain.

“Kung sila ang mag-uutos sa akin na pag-aralan ko yung adjustment para mabigyan ng mas magandang pagkakataon at magandang oras ng ensayo ang team natin… gagawin ko yun,” added Atty. Salud.

For now, Salud guarantees full support from all ten teams of the league on the country’s bid to finish within the top 3 of the coming FIBA-ASIA Championships, which will give ticket to the 2014 World Basketball Championships.

“Our main goal here is to qualify to the World Championships at todo suporta ang lahat ng mga teams rito and the PBA is one in attaining this goal,” said Salud.
